Who are our tutors

Our tutors are native or fluent English speakers of 14 years old and above coming from best International and British schools who have good grades in English language at school.

Why become a Baloo tutor

  • You will become a better learner yourself once you have been in “teachers” shoes.

Tiers of tutors

After completing each course tutors get official signed certificates from the Baloo Academy acknowledging their results in helping children and teenagers around the world to learn English. There are several tiers:

  • Blue – tutors who completed 6 hours of tutoring (Blue Certificate)
  • Silver – tutors who have completed 12 hours of tutoring (Silver Certificate)
  • Golden – tutors who have completed 18 hours (Golden Certificate and Baloo Academy T-Shirt)
  • Black – tutors who have completed 24 hours of tutoring.
    (Black certificate and an official  recommendation letter for universities and future employers)

Help for tutors

  • No prior training is required to become a tutor.
  • The emphasis is on spoken English, you are not supposed to teach grammar or spelling.
  • Your goal as a tutor is to help your student overcome a fear of speaking English and encourage him or her to express himself without the pressure of a classroom.
  • Once you have registered,  we will be in contact with each tutor to give you a training workshop on how to teach students.
  • We will give you guidelines regarding content/curriculum of the course and provide you with supporting materials for all the lessons.
  • We leave a lot of freedom to each tutor to adapt the content to the individual needs of their student.
  • Every student is different, their level of English is different, we strongly believe children and teenagers  are able to adapt and understand each other better than adults.
  • We also believe in reading books and learning poems as part of the learning process and encourage you to use our recommended list of books.
  • We are always available for help if you feel you are “stuck” and not progressing enough.
